The 1st part was completed in 1677 & entered into the stationers' register on 12/22/1677. It was licensed & entered in the Term Catalogue on 2/18/1678, deemed the date of 1st publication. After the 1st edition of the 1st part in 1678, an expanded edition, with additions written after he was freed, appeared in 1679. The 2nd Part appeared in 1684. There were 11 editions of the 1st part in his lifetime, published in successive years from 1678-1685 & in 1688. There were two editions of the 2nd part, published in 1684 & 1686.
