She graduated from Mars Hill College in the mountains of North Carolina. She attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary for one year. She taught physical education in Dillon High School, in Dillon, South Carolina for 12 years; taught Science, Math, and physical education at Corriher Lipe Junior High School for one year; and fifth grade elementary school at Curtis Baptist School in Augusta, Georgia for eighteen years. Her final 9 years of education was spent as principal/assistant principal of Curtis Baptist School in Augusta, Georgia.
